It’s been weeks since Devin Nunes, under the White House’s illegal guidance, released the now infamous Nunes memo, a poorly written and comically and verifiably misleading memo attempting to turn the American people against the FBI, Robert Mueller and the entire Trump/Russia investigation. It failed. Miserably.
Now, the Democratic rebuttal, the “Schiff memo,” has finally been released to the public and has further exposed the Nunes memo as nothing but a partisan farce.
Donald Trump is not taking it very well.
Harvard Professor Laurence Tribe had this to say about the Schiff memo: “The Adam Schiff memo, just released with DOJ & POTUS approval, shows that the surveillance of Carter Page was properly authorized LONG BEFORE the Steele dossier ever entered the picture. That blows the GOP case out of the water.”
Congressman Ted Lieu had this to say: “Dem House Intelligence Committee memo does many things: Destroys false claim by Nunes that FISA process was abused. Shows Donald Trump is in no way vindicated. Lays out ample probable cause to surveil Carter Page. Shows Steele Dossier corroborated. Shows FBI & DOJ know a lot.”
Of course, Donald Trump exploded into a total meltdown about the Schiff memo with a totally false statement, saying: “The Democrat memo response on government surveillance abuses is a total political and legal BUST. Just confirms all of the terrible things that were done. SO ILLEGAL!”
Adam Schiff was quick to shut down Trump’s comment, saying: “Wrong again, Mr. President. It confirms the FBI acted appropriately and that Russian agents approached two of your advisors, and informed your campaign that Russia was prepared to help you by disseminating stolen Clinton emails.”
Of course, Trump was hoping the Nunes memo would expose information that would then allow him to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, which would have helped undermine the Trump-Russia investigation, but that plan blew up spectacularly….and Trump isn’t taking it well.
