According to reports, it appears as if House Intelligence Committee ranking member Adam Schiff has been a step ahead of Donald Trump and Devin Nunes throughout the entire memorandum scandal, and has an ace up his sleeve with his Democratic rebuttal memo.
While Nunes wrote his memo as a means to save himself and Trump in the Russia scandal, Schiff and the other Democrats on the House Intel Committee wrote the rebuttal memo as a means of exposing the fraudulent and misleading nature of the Nunes memo.
Trump was quick to sign-off on the release of the Nunes memo, but due to “significant concerns for the national security and law enforcement interests,” Trump wants Schiff to make several revisions to the memo before he will sign-off on it.
Nevertheless, according to reports from CNN and MSNBC, Adam Schiff has announced that he’s simply refusing to make any revisions to the rebuttal memo.
“We’re not going to make any revisions to it. The only question is what redactions will be made. And obviously we’d like to keep those to a minimum,” Schiff told reporters.
And let’s not be fooled by Trump’s tactics here either, because logic suggests the “revisions” he’s calling for serve no purpose other than to minimize how poorly he would look in the Russia scandal.
“The White House has a different interest. I think their interest is in redacting anything that doesn’t reflect well on the White House,” Schiff added.
Although Schiff has not revealed his strategy here, it’s fair to assume he must have a really good reason for wanting to keep the memo intact despite Donald Trump’s attempts to block it.
