Another White House Official Just Resigned Over Domestic Violence Allegations

Coming on the heels of White House staff secretary Rob Porter resigning for domestic abuse, a second White House staffer has now resigned for physical and emotional abuse allegations from his ex-wife.

Speechwriter David Sorensen resigned on Friday after his ex-wife aired accusations of domestic violence during their two-and-a-half year marriage.

The Washington Post was reported Sorensen’s resignation, saying Sorensen’s ex-wife Jessica Corbett said that he had run over her foot with a car, put out a cigarette on her hand, threw her against a wall and pulled her hair during an excursion off the coast of Maine.

“Before we were contacted by the media, we learned last night that there were allegations, said Raj Shah, the White House’s principal deputy press secretary. “We immediately confronted the staffer, he denied the allegations and he resigned today.”

NBC News reached out to Sorensen, who didn’t immediately respond, but the White House said he denied the allegations and he claimed to the Post that he was actually the victim of abuse.

Sorensen wrote in a statement that he had “never committed violence of any kind against any woman in my entire life” and “In fact, I was the victim of repeated physical violence during our marriage, not her.”

He also said he was “considering legal options to address her defamation.”

Sorensen was a speechwriter for less than a year in the Trump administration. He worked as a staff member of the Council on Environmental Quality, which is attached to the Executive Office of the President of the United States.

These things are becoming a normal part of the Trump administration it seems.
