Perhaps Donald Trump doesn’t know that intimidating voters is illegal. Perhaps he does know and he just doesn’t care, as seems to be the case with most of the illegal things he suggests people do.
Citing that cheating is the only way he can lose Pennsylvania, Trump first called on law-enforcement and election officials to keep guard over polling centers, and then encouraged his supporters to not only get and vote, but to get involved in policing the polls as well.
Over the weekend Trump said “I hope you people can sort of not just vote on the 8th, go around and look and watch other polling places, and make sure that it’s 100 percent fine.”
NPR reports, “these weren’t just off-the-cuff remarks for Trump. On his campaign website, you can sign up to “volunteer to be a Trump election observer.””
Many are taking Trump’s call to action as a call to intimidate voters, which is very much illegal in the United States.
NPR went on to say,
If his remarks are found to be voter intimidation and if Trump is deemed an agent of the Republican National Committee, it would also violate a consent decree banning the RNC from such activity.
That decree, which has been in place since 1982, was ordered in response to claims of voter intimidation against minorities in the 1970s and 80s, according to Politico’s Josh Gerstein.
The consent decree states that the RNC must “refrain from undertaking any ballot security activities in polling places or election districts where the racial or ethnic composition of such districts is a factor in the decision” to monitor those areas.
Over and over again, Trump makes excuses for what he knows are likely going to be eventual losses for his presidential bid. It’s never because of the moronic things he says or outright lies he tells, either. No, it’s because of voter fraud (which barely exists in America), the “disgusting, liberal media” and their “unfair” coverage of him (of course, if they didn’t cover the stupid things he says, they wouldn’t have anything to cover), or because somebody or something else somehow treated him unfairly.
Yep. Poor ol’ mistreated Donald Trump. Everybody is out to get him, for no good reason.
If only we had reason to dislike him, like say, he suggested someone assassinate his opponent, or he claimed that everyone that doesn’t vote for him is somehow cheating, or he was a racist with support from KKK leaders and support TO Kim Jung Un and Vladimir Putin. If only those things would happen, we could have reason to so mistreat Donald Trump. If only.
