Politifact has named their Donald Trump “Lie of the Year”, and it’s a big one:
The lie is one that Trump has claimed repeatedly throughout his clownshow of a Presidency, which is that Russia did not interfere with the 2016 US Presidential election, which is a rather verified fact.
“This Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story. It’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should’ve won,” said President Donald Trump in an interview with NBC’s Lester Holt in May.
On Twitter in September, Trump said, “The Russia hoax continues, now it’s ads on Facebook. What about the totally biased and dishonest Media coverage in favor of Crooked Hillary?”
Trump spoke about a Putin meeting while traveling to Asia in November: “Every time he sees me, he says, ‘I didn’t do that.’ And I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it.” Trump also called the officials who led the intelligence agencies during the election “political hacks.”
“What we’re saying is this Russian interference definitely happened and President Trump has said several times that it hasn’t,” PolitiFact editor Angie Holan told CNN’s Reliable Sources.
“Well it has,” she said further. “And it really goes to the heart of American democracy and our elections and how we decide who do we pick to be our leaders in Congress and the White House.”
Russia DID in fact meddle in the U.S. presidential election of 2016. PolitiFact concludes:
In both classified and public reports, U.S. intelligence agencies have said Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered actions to interfere with the election. Those actions included the cyber-theft of private data, the placement of propaganda against particular candidates, and an overall effort to undermine public faith in the U.S. democratic process.
Earlier this month, the fact checking website named Trump’s oft-repeated claim its “Lie of the Year” for 2017. Despite “a mountain of evidence” that Russia indeed interfered in the election, Donald Trump has incessantly insisted it did not.
Trump, of course, possesses a brain that has not developed past that of a 12 year old, and believes Russian President Vladimir Putin when he tells him “I didn’t do it.”
Keep on believing that Donald, all the way to your cell in a federal prison.
