Republicans like to tout their undying love and support of the U.S. military. It’s one of their strongest suits, if you ask them. Except, when it comes to actually supporting the U.S. military, they kind of suck at it.
As popular vote loser Donald Trump and the GOP controlled House and Senate have shutdown the government, the military should have been paid anyway, thanks to a resolution similar to the one passed by President Obama before the last government shutdown in 2013.
Well, here’s Senate Majority Leader and world champion turtle impersonator Mitch McConnell killing that bill, ensuring the military not get paid during the shutdown:
The leader of VoteVets, a military advocacy group, said that “it gets harder and harder to believe that Donald Trump and the Republicans want anything other than a shutdown, when they make military pay a key talking point, but then block Democrats’ bill to make sure our military is paid, during a shutdown.”
He continued “It’s becoming clear that shutting down the government, and holding people hostage for ransom, is the goal of Trump and Republicans. There simply is no other reason for Republicans to kill a Democratic measure to pay troops, other than to keep holding our troops and their families hostage. It’s disgusting.”
McConnell had the gall to say, immediately after the deadline to pass the resolution “For America’s men and women in uniform, shutting down the government means delayed pay.”
Mitch, you had the chance to get those men and women in uniform paid, but chose to kick the can down the street until you get what you want.
