Impeachment actions against Donald J. Trump are now formal

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D. NY) is escalating the beginnings of impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, according to multiple reports.

The current count of House Democrats that support impeachment proceedings against Trump is 123 as of the weekend, but the number has continued to grow at a fairly steady rate over the last several weeks.

In an interview with CNN, Nadler said the following:

“This is formal impeachment proceedings. We are investigating all the evidence, we’re gathering the evidence. And we will at the conclusion of this — hopefully by the end of the year — vote to vote articles of impeachment to the House floor. Or we won’t. That’s a decision that we’ll have to make. But that’s exactly the process we’re in right now.”

Nadler has encouraged Speaker  of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to back the impeachment inquiry, but Pelosi has warned her colleagues that impeachment would be unsuccessful and too divisive.  Nadler did say that Pelosi has been “very cooperative” in the Committee’s investigative efforts, as she signed off on court filings clarifying whether or not to call the  investigation an impeachment inquiry.
