With Robert Mueller tentatively set to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on May 15th, it appears Donald Trump is now exercising everything within his power in order to prevent it from happening. Apparently he is in such a mad scramble that he is looking to the Kremlin for help and has had his regime setup a meeting with Russians the day prior to Mueller’s testimony on May 14th.
Yes, that’s right. According to a report from the New York Times, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that he’s cancelling an upcoming meeting with Angela Merkel in Germany for a trip to Iraq instead. However, per a different media outlet, it appears Pompeo may actually be heading to Russia to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. As suspicious as that sounds, allegedly, Vladimir Putin may also be joining them.
While the meeting seems to masked by “a wide range of issues” stemming from a Monday conversation between Pompeo and Lavrov, the sudden shift in Pompeo’s schedule seems to suggest he is ditching a rather important summit in order to meet with the Russian government in a last ditch effort to either disrupt or divert everyone’s attention from Mueller’s testimony regarding the Trump-Russia scandal.
Now, whether they’ll actually be successful in doing so remains to be seen, but you can safely bet that they’ll be trying their hardest next week to come up with something…anything…before the hearing takes place. Unfortunately for Trump, I’m not sure there’s anything that can actually stop Robert Mueller from testifying.
