About once a month, the biggest campaign promise made by popular vote loser Donald Trump, his moronic border wall idea, comes back full force into the news. Will it get funded in this bill or that bill? Is he somehow gonna make Mexico pay for it (of course not)? How much is it going to cost taxpayers? Etc, etc. etc.
Now, it’s in the news for a different reason, namely, a prominent GOP Senator is actively working to undermine this most ridiculous aspect of the Trump agenda.
The latest deadline for the shutdown of the government is looming this Friday, and The Hill is reporting that Senator John McCain (R-AZ), is working bipartisan with Christopher Coons (D-DE) on a plan to introduce a clean immigration bill that would not include funding for the wall, in an effort to end the budget impasse.
The bipartisan bill would provide a path to citizenship for the “Dreamers” that Trump unilaterally ended last year, giving legal status to immigrants brought to the USA as children who have lived in the country since Dec. 31, 2013. A similar bill has been introduced in the House Reps. Will Hurd (R-TX) and Pete Aguilar (D-CA).
McCain told The Wall Street Journal:
“It’s time we end the gridlock so we can quickly move on to completing a long-term budget agreement that provides our men and women in uniform the support they deserve.”
“While reaching a deal cannot come soon enough for America’s service members, the current political reality demands bipartisan cooperation to address the impending expiration of the DACA program and secure the southern border,” he continued.
The lack of funding for the wall in the bill means that there is a strong chance that Trump won’t sign off on this and that the government will shut down again.
This time, Democrats should be even louder in making sure everyone knows that it’s Trump and the Republicans that are shutting down the government, despite Trump’s repeated claims of “Democrat Shutdown.” This is a man who would rather deport small children and separate them from their families than sign a bill that doesn’t give him funding for his most idiotic agenda items.
