I hate to stereotype, but let’s be honest, Randy Bryce looks like a Trump-supporting, blue-collar, “make American great again” kind of guy:
Here’s the thing, though. He’s not. Not even close. In fact, Bryce is running for Congress. His opponent? Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.
While I think that alone should be enough to immediately get him elected, he’s still got an uphill battle for election:
In his campaign ad, he discusses healthcare with his mother, and showing his skill in crafting metal. His has already reached 700,000 views, which is very rare for any politician unless they’re running for president. “I knew that we would have a successful launch,” Bryce told the Guardian on Thursday. “But I honestly did not have any kind of idea it would blow up as big as it has.”
Bryce has already gained a lot of popularity, particularly among Bernie Sanders supporters, but he still faces an uphill battle. Paul Ryan has been in his seat since 1999, and won his last election 65%. However, Bryce remains hopeful, especially with the rise of progressive politics started by Bernie Sanders. Bryce also talks about wanting to be as close to his community as possible, because he literally helped build it…something Paul Ryan can’t say. In an interview with Don Lemon, he said that Paul Ryan hadn’t even visited the district in over 600 days.
As Democrats look to unify and solidify a message other than “we’re not Trump,” Bryce’s message is refreshing and hopeful. The rest of the party could stand to take some cues from Bryce moving forward.
Well done, Randy Bryce! We are pulling for you, sir.
