In an abuse of power, appalling even for popular vote loser Donald Trump, the president tweeted this out over the weekend:
“I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes – and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!”
Besides the overall stupidity of the tweet, it’s also reckless and a complete and utter abuse of power.
First, the FBI did have an insider in Trump’s campaign, but only because they had ample evidence of collusion with Russia.
Second, this is clearly just the latest in a series of desperate attacks on the DOJ and the FBI by Trump to distract from his growing legal concerns, much like his attacks on Andrew McCabe and the ridiculous “Nunes memo” clown show.
Ranking House Intelligence Committee member Adam Schiff responded to Trump’s tweet to scold the President for his ridiculous conspiracy theories and reckless tweeting behavior:
“Trump’s claim of an embedded “spy” is nonsense. His “demand” DOJ investigate something they know to be untrue is an abuse of power, and an effort to distract from his growing legal problems. Never mind that DOJ has warned that lives and alliances are at risk. He doesn’t care.”
Elect a clown, expect a circus.
