On Monday, popular vote loser Donald Trump took to attacking Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee. While attacking Democrats is nothing new for our Twitter-in-Chief, his barbs at Schiff were particularly mean and juvenile, and even went as far as to falsely accuse Schiff of specific crimes.
The reason for the attacks? Trump knows what’s coming and he is trying to discredit Schiff before it goes down, but it’s all about to blow up in his face in just a matter of days.
Here’s what Trump tweeted today: “Little Adam Schiff, who is desperate to run for higher office, is one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington, right up there with Comey, Warner, Brennan and Clapper! Adam leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information. Must be stopped!”
Donald Trump has reached the point where he is so desperate that hew now accusing virtually everyone of committing crimes against him.
It was already very obvious that that this meltdown had something to do with Trump’s utter failure via the Devin Nunes memo stunt, but now we know specifically why Trump likely attacked Adam Schiff.
It wasn’t long after Trump went on his Twitter rant that the House Intel Committee unanimously voted to release a rebuttal memo that Adam Schiff wrote in response to Devin Nunes’ memo. This is an absolutely stunning development. It’s not the rebuttal that’s surprising, but rather the fact that it was a unanimous decision to release Schiff’s response. Why? Because it means that every single Republican on the committee voted in favor of the Schiff memo release.
This is another clear sign that Republicans are trying to distance themselves from the memo circus and force Trump to own it alone.
Donald Trump is now in a very bad spot. Of course, Trump could still refuse to declassify the Adam Schiff memo, which would technically prevent them from releasing it formally, but there’s a trick they have up their sleeve they could use.
If you’ll recall, there was a point when Republicans weren’t sure if Trump would sign off on their memo release, so they discussed reading it aloud from the House floor, giving them the legal cover they needed while accomplishing their goal of getting the information out to the public. Adam Schiff could now use the exact same tactic to release his memo, if needed.
So, getting back to why Trump publicly attacked Adam Schiff on Twitter, this is the reason. Trump knows he’s just days away from the Schiff memo getting released one way of the other.
