Popular vote loser Donald Trump has so many strange, bizarre twitter rants that’s easy to just normalize them and not pay attention when he really goes off the rails.
Speaking of going off the rails, there’s this little gem from today:
Trump says: “Why didn’t President Obama do something about Russia in September (before November Election) when told by the FBI? He did NOTHING, and had no intention of doing anything!”
While that may seem like just another crazy rant about and railing against the investigations into his election activity, let’s break down what’s really going on here.
Trump clearly realizes he can’t simply get away with claiming “no collusion” based on the mounting evidence. He also realizes he can’t falsely claim a “spy” was working inside his campaign, so he is resorting to now saying none of it is his fault because Obama’s FBI and DOJ didn’t warn him that Russian was meddling with his campaign.
Essentially, Trump is trying to find a way to blame the FBI for not stopping his campaign from the activity they were involved in. Well, that just fell apart for Trump as well.
So, let’s address Trump direct question: “Why didn’t Obama and the FBI do something?”. News flash, Trump, they did. NBC News reported the following:
In the weeks after he became the Republican nominee on July 19, 2016, Donald Trump was warned that foreign adversaries, including Russia, would probably try to spy on and infiltrate his campaign, according to multiple government officials familiar with the matter.
We have long suspected that Trump would use the line of defense that suggests he was too naive to know anything about Russian meddling, which is exactly what he’s now doing.
