Hours after a Federal Judge issued a temporary stay on Trump’s “Muslim Ban” Executive Order, the White House and DHS hit back, saying that the Judge’s decision doesn’t affect the implementation of the order. What is happening here is Trump is telling America that the judicial branch doesn’t get to tell him what to do and the constitution means nothing…we hear you, Donald, loud and clear.
In an official statement, the Department of Homeland Security stated the following:
The Department of Homeland Security will continue to enforce all of President Trump’s Executive Orders in a manner that ensures the safety and security of the American people. President Trump’s Executive Orders remain in place—prohibited travel will remain prohibited, and the U.S. government retains its right to revoke visas at any time if required for national security or public safety. President Trump’s Executive Order affects a minor portion of international travelers, and is a first step towards reestablishing control over America’s borders and national security.
Team Trump also issued their own statements on the Judgement. Senior Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway said the following:
“The judge in Brooklyn, the Obama appointee judge in Brooklyn’s stay of order really doesn’t affect the executive order at all, because the executive order is meant to be prospective,” Conway said on Fox News Sunday.
Twitter was quick to respond to the President’s defiance of a federal court, because, Mrs. Conway, regardless of which president appointed the judge, neither the President or the DHS has the constitutional authority to defy a federal judge.
What they are doing is trying to undermine the Judicial branch of the government and the public’s trust in them. This is classic authoritarian regime behavior, and it is the beginning of the Trump team’s effort to destroy the government branches that aren’t the Executive branch, giving them all the power by erasing the system of checks and balances.
This (hopefully) won’t end well for Trump.
