They’re not the brightest bunch in the world, are they? I’m talking, of course, about the associates of popular vote loser Donald Trump. The latest of Trump’s associates to prove himself less than intelligent is his personal attorney, Michael Cohen.
Cohen just came out and said that he paid the hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her affair with Trump silent out of his own pocket, and in doing so, he basically just admitted to criminal activity, as pointed out by Congressman Ted Lieu.
Cohen tried his best to protect Trump by saying he paid the $130,000 to Daniels without Trump’s knowledge or involvement, but Congressman Ted Lieu, an Air Force JAG officer with a law degree, points out something very interesting:
“Michael Cohen admits he paid $130k in hush money to Daniels during presidential campaign to cover up her affair with @realDonaldTrump. That smells illegal. Looks like a massive in-kind contribution.”
Lieu went on to say, “Legal standard for fed election law is not whether a person pays from personal funds. An in-kind contribution is any ‘expenditure made by any person in cooperation, consultation or concert with, or at the request or suggestion of, a candidate’s campaign.’ Cohen is in big trouble.”
Cohen’s move to protect Trump did just the opposite, it only makes things worse.
Bill Palmer points out, “At this point Michael Cohen’s only conceivable legal defense would be that he was lying when he claimed he made the payment out of pocket on his own. This is now an even bigger scandal. Cohen is going to need a lawyer of his own, and Donald Trump is going to need a better lawyer.”
