Trump’s White House Suffers Another Scandal and Several Resignations to Start The Week

As fate would have it, last week proved to be quite the week for the ever failing White House. First, it was the departure of staffer Rob Porter thanks to a domestic violence scandal. Then, it was as if the departures snowballed, as one key person after another began tendering controversial resignations of their own.

Of all the resignations, perhaps the highest profile departure of them all belongs Rachel Brand, who is the No. 3 at the Department of Justice. However, it’s difficult to say whether or not her departure is relevant to Robert Mueller’s investigation of the Trump-Russia scandal. For now, it appears Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein staying put, meaning he will continue to be in charge of the Trump-Russia investigation.

However, two lesser profile departures from the Trump White House appear to be much more scandalous, each for their own separate reasons.

Yes, similar to the resignation of Rob Porter, the resignation of David Sorensen, White House speechwriter, came amid accusations of domestic abuse against his ex-wife. Of course, Sorensen denies the allegations, but based on the timing of his resignation, it’s pretty clear he’s trying to get out before his departure becomes as controversial as Porter’s.

Additionally, White House Deputy Chief of Staff John Carroll has also tendered his resignation. Apparently, he is going to be appointed White House Drug Czar. To be fair to Carroll, though, there is no known scandal behind his departure at this time, but considering he had only been on the job for three months, and his alleged new post is a major step backwards, there’s bound to be controversy surrounding it somehow. Especially given that his immediate supervisor, White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, is said to have offered his own resignation in the wake of the Porter scandal. Is Carroll abandoning ship because Kelly is about to do the same? This is obviously another wait and see here, but it seems very possible.

If this trend continues, it’s only a matter of time before the Captain goes down with the sinking ship.
