President Donald Trump seems to have gotten away with an astonishing amount of shady to outright corrupt activity during his first term up to this point. But, it really is starting to look like his luck may be running out.
After a scandal broke last week with news that Trump “allegedly” (but absolutely did) asked the President of the Ukraine to investigate Democratic 2020 Presidential frontrunner and former VP Joe Biden and his son for what he believed to be criminal activity, more news has come out that this is actually a hobby of Trump’s, it appears.
It appears Trump also asked China to help bring down the Bidens:
“When President Donald Trump suggested — without prompting — that China should investigate Joe Biden and his son, he thrust another political grudge into what was already the world’s most complicated and consequential relationship.”
“The move startled Chinese officials, who say they have little interest in becoming embroiled in a US political controversy. And it amounted to the latest extraordinary effort by Trump to openly request political assistance from foreign governments.”
The report goes on to say: “During a phone call with Xi on June 18, Trump raised Biden’s political prospects as well as those of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who by then had started rising in the polls, according to two people familiar with the discussion. In that call, Trump also told Xi he would remain quiet on Hong Kong protests as trade talks progressed.”
The official White House record of this phone call was later stored in the highly secured electronic system, the same secure system used in the phone call with Ukraine’s President, which kicked off a whistleblower complaint against Trump. Of course, the how now led to an impeachment inquiry.
The White House did not deny that Trump spoke about his political rivals with the Chinese President either.
This is a man and an administration that very clearly a) believes they are above the law or b) are too ignorant to realize that what they’re doing is against the law. Perhaps a little bit of both.
