ICE Director Exposes Trump’s Lie About “Animal” Immigrants to Jim Acosta

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Thomas Horman was caught daring to contradict the Twitter-in-Chief, exposes one of Trump’s favorite lies about immigration.

According to CNN reporter Jim Acosta, Homan was asked at an off-camera briefing if immigrants were more likely to commit violent crimes that natural-born citizens, an idea that largely helped Donald Trump get elected.  Homan conceded that no, that was not true.

Newsweek explains:

Trump said at the very beginning of his campaign in 2015, “when Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

Fast forward nearly 2 years later and Trump is still spouting the same untrue rhetoric.

Newsweek points out, Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric has continued since he became president, and he turned some of his words into actions with one of his first executive orders. Titled “Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States,” the order claims that “many aliens who illegally enter the United States…present a significant threat to national security and public safety.” It directed the Department of Homeland Security to publish a weekly “comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens.”

And the numbers/statistics have simply never backed up Trump’s claims:

Census data shows that among men aged between 18 and 39, native-born Americans were anywhere from two to five times more likely to be incarcerated.

One March 2017 study from the Cato Institute concluded that illegal immigrants had incarceration rates of 0.85 percent, compared to 1.53 percent for native-born Americans.

A study from the Sentencing Project shows, “Research dating back more than a century documents a pattern whereby the foreign-born are involved in crime at significantly lower rates than their peers.”

In summary, I think it’s important to emphasize here that one of the most basic tenets of Trump’s election to the Presidency was just undermined by one of the men charged with leading its implementation. Trump’s cluelessness knows no bounds.
